Kansas City International Airport Passenger Traffic Up for October

The Kansas City Aviation Department reports that 1,065,712 passengers arrived and departed through Kansas City International Airport’s gates in October 2024, a 0.4-percent increase from October 2023. It was the second busiest October ever and the sixth straight month to exceed one million passengers served. For the year to date, total passengers in and out total 10,195,322, up 5.5 percent.

Passenger boardings were down 0.05 percent, with 529,280 boarded. Year-to-date passenger boardings are 5,082,128, up 5.4 percent.

Air cargo tonnages, which consist of both freight and mail transported by air, for all carriers at Kansas City International were up 19.8 percent in October with a total of 23.5 million pounds handled. Year to date, 221.9 million pounds of air cargo has been handled, up 14.0 percent. Air freight handled at Kansas City International during October amounted to 20.3 million pounds, up 3.8 percent year-over-year. Year to date, air freight is up 11.4 percent with 212.4 million pounds handled. Air mail for October was up 17,688 percent from October 2023 with 3.2 million pounds handled. Air mail year to date for 2024 is up 133.0 percent from 2023 with 9.5 million pounds handled.  

The number of peak-day scheduled aircraft departures for October 2024 was 171. Service was offered to 54 nonstop markets. There was an average of 45,993 arriving and departing scheduled seats in the market each day. The all-cargo carriers reported 10 daily departures for October.
